About Lynn

about Lynn

LIMBER_241.jpg

I have had a life-long interest in movement, particularly dance in all its forms, and was trained in classical ballet. I’ve explored many different exercise modalities, including weights and gravity-based training, stretch therapy, yoga and aqua-aerobics as well as regular programs. I teach Body Pump, Body Balance, CXWX, but my main focus and current field of research is on feet, posture and gait (through AiM). I have found tremendous ongoing benefits not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally, from strength and flexibility training. Pilates is about the study of movement, and understanding what works best for each individual. Each person is unique and requires a fresh approach. Then add regular practice into the mix to bring about the desired results.

My professional development in the fitness industry over the past 15 years includes completion of the Diploma of Pilates Studio, and Certificate IV (Advanced Mat) from Polestar Australia. Polestar is a world-leader in Pilates training. I also hold the Certificate III in Fitness from the Canberra Institute of Technology. I am a member of Pilates Alliance Australasia and Fitness Australia, peak body associations in our fitness industry.

I am inspired by the results that a commitment to Pilates practice can achieve for everyone. I enjoy designing and teaching Pilates sessions and tailoring classes to adjust to all participants in my class. My clients and I together discover what is our greatest asset in and throughout life – the harmonising of our body and mind. Let us challenge ourselves to see what we can do, how we change day-to-day, and move with more strength and grace.

What is Pilates?

what is pilates?

“In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body.”

– Joseph Pilates

The renowned Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) was a passionate advocate for exercise and movement to heal, and to maintain health for the duration of our lives! He devised a system of understanding human movement with a set of physical strengthening exercises he recommended, and this was known as the Pilates Method. These exercises exemplified his Principles of movement: alignment, articulation, breathing, concentration, core strength (‘centering’), and controlled, flowing movement. He emphasised the role of the smaller muscles in the body, conditioning them to work with the larger muscle groups to build good posture, functional stability and strength. Over time and with regular practice, the Pilates Principles are integrated into our movement habits – and so in turn we gain a greater sense of energy, empowerment and wellness.

Pilates is now a world-wide research-led movement, which continues to grow and develop under the umbrella of professional teaching bodies, codes, and associations. Qualified Pilates teachers have good understanding of human movement patterns, and can expertly use manual, visual and verbal cues to help each client improve the quality of their movement and work towards their goals.
